Why do we have to act?

See noaa.gov - climate change impacts

Also see How climate change changes the world

Here is a brief summary what would happen if we reached 4°C of global warming:

Among others - all of these effects would occur dramatically more frequent and more intense:

  • Wildfires
  • Air pollution
  • Species and nature loss
  • Deseases
  • Droughts
  • Lack of water
  • Economic collapse
  • Refugees
  • Hunger
  • War

According to https://ourworldindata.org/co2-and-other-greenhouse-gas-emissions (2021) we're still increasing emissions:

Please take a moment and read the following Global Research article:

Sustainable Development: Have We Made Progress Since the Publication of the 1987 Brundtland Report?

November 04, 2017 by Prof. Jacques Prescott

https://www.globalresearch.ca/sustainable-development-have-we-made-progress-since-the-publication-of-the-1987-brundtland-report/5616639

https://www.globalresearch.ca/author/jacques-prescott

Within this article it is stated that these points (among others) brought us into this situation:

  • growth of population
  • deforestation and destruction of rainforests
  • excessive agriculture and livestock
  • species extinction
  • greenhouse effect and climate change caused by pollution and other factors
  • uncontrolled economic growth
  • waste of resources and excessive consumption by wealthy people
  • etc.

Further it is stated within the article that we made some progress within the last more than 30 years since Brundtland-Report but (among others) the following points were still open to be solved:

  • consumption of natural resources and pollution continues
  • climate change is threatening ecosystems, animals and humans more than ever before
  • the amount of resources we consume exceeds the capacity of the planet; more every year - see Earth Overshoot Day
  • democracy is being repressed more and more
  • influence of media controlled by industrial groups and other similar institutions increases
  • economic growth continues without significant restrictions
  • etc.

Within the article it is stated also that in the area of politics and public offices, corruption continues to increase among some elected representatives. Certain political leaders seem to listen more to the demands of lobbies than their voters.

We (you and me) have to take action now.
